LAURIE BETH ZUCKERMAN "FORGET-ME-NOT" HOME ALTAR INSTALLATION
A jumble of Madonna and Marys populate my "Forget-Me-Not" altar which sits next to my office desk. I was inspired by the Santo Nino de Atocha altars that I have seen in Chimayo, New Mexico. It has a bright feeling in its coloration, but it holds a deeply sorrowful feeling at its core. After my mother, Blanche Kleid Zuckerman passed away, I was worried she would forget me. This home altar is my plea to her to please not forget me, to be my Guardian Angel always. It is also my statement back to her that I will not forget her either. That I will always be the keeper of her flame as long as I am alive to do so. These altars I have been sharing of my mother, whose 90th birthday would have been this week on December 4, hopefully give you an intimate glimpse into the world of my personal family altars.
Please join my dear friend, Rebecca Brooks at her blog for the 12 days of Mary sharing by artists around the world: Recuerda Mi Corazon. I have linked this post to Rebecca's site.
A mother never forgets, she even has the elephant beat on that. Your collections are astounding...your devotion and love even more so♥
ReplyDeletei love that your shrine thrives in the traditional colours we associate with the birth of baby girls and baby boys. i love the closeness of every figure, as if none of them can reside close enough to the other. a bright song of love named for a gardens favorite flower, a flower that also makes its appearance in small packets of seeds to commemorate the death of a loved one.
ReplyDeleteLaurie,
ReplyDeleteI can just imagine your house, filled to the brim with intricate altars! Thank you for this rare glimpse into your private sanctuary...it holds all the things I hold dear, as well.
Like yesterday, I enlarged the forget me not altar and was blown away with the detail. Like Dawn, I am trying to picture where you put all of these magnificent altars. And--who dusts them? I am SO lazy.
ReplyDeleteI truly believe that we are never forgotten by those who love us, no matter where we may be. Just as we pray for the souls of the faithfully departed, I believe those same souls are praying for us as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming by to visit Mary. I also have a soft spot for holy cards...I continue to collect them and especially love a collection of old nativity scene's from France and Italy.
ReplyDeleteI do love your alter and hope to have one in my home too, such beautiful colors. Take care.
Jenny

ReplyDeleteyour sharings straight from the heart has brought much inspiration, healing and joy to me as it mirrors so much of my own journey and the way I do things. How I wish I could just pop over for that workshop, but alas it is almost a day of flying to get to your side of the world. I would like to buy the book though. Could you let me know the postage to South Africa and can I pay via PayPal? blessings to you
