Laurie Beth Zuckerman's "Bella Donna Memorial Altar"
installed at the Loveland Museum Gallery 2009
Laurie Beth Zuckerman's "Bella Donna Memorial Altar" displays vintage Madonnas and dozens of other Catholic and eclectic icons, all in bronze-gold tones. Pictured above is a detail of one of my encrusted Marys that honors and holds the memory of my cousin, Donna Zuckerman, who tragically died along with her husband on their honeymoon in 1973. This altar has been exhibited at my solo retrospective at the Loveland Museum Gallery, and the Durango Art Center in Southern Colorado. Please read the statement below that I wrote for the Loveland show.
I have posted this Mary photo in conjunction with my dear friend, Rebecca Brooks' "Mornings with Mary," an annual tradition that Rebecca hosts on her blog: Recuerda Mi Corazon. Please join in on the sharing of tradition and contemporary Virgin Marys posted by artists around the world, on each morning of December until the culmination of the Virgin of Guadalupe on December 12th, which just happens to be my birthday!

Laurie, this is just so beautiful. You've created a masterpiece. Thank you for sharing.
This is amazing art you have created. I can tell your heart is right there in the middle of it all. I would love to see it in person.
Laurie,
I love getting this extra glimpse into your work during Rebecca's yearly meme...such a tragic story about your cousin, yet such a
glorious shrine!
So many individual things in this altar that I love. You've put them together so beautifully, honoring your cousin as well as Mary.
Laurie, is this still in the Longmont museum? I would love to make a visit.
Absolutely breathtaking.
Unfortunately my Bella Donna altar is not on display, and sadly it is packed away in my garage. But thank you for asking, Shannon.
dear laurie,
i love sharing these precious days together. the mood of your altar is somber yet endearingly the blush of rose resides on each tender detail.
so much love here...so much devotion.
breathtaking, completely breathtaking.
I can't help it: This Mary looks like she's wearing chain mail, ready for battle!
Virgin of the Bath
How about getting rid of the word verification, and just using comment moderation? Using both is overkill!
The weight of pleas hangs on her with dignity and grace.
Amazing sculpture!
So much to take in - very stunning!
Your work is absolutely beautiful!
Best wishes,
Ruby
